    Dcm has bacterial pneumonia

What to do...just got a text from dcm saying her cold turned into bacterial pneumonia but dcb is "fine." She does have pretty much no immune system, so I get that she gets sicker than most would but we've had some honesty/sickness issues in the past. I can't be 100% sure dcb doesn't have it too. I don't know how contagious it is. I have 2 infants (one being my own, who has a heart defect that requires me to be more careful with sickness/infections). One has a surgery coming up. Dcb had a runny nose towards the end of the week but that was it, has been gone since Thursday. How do I handle this? I know its HER that has it, but dcb has definitely been exposed at the very least :/

Someone else might know more how risky it is, but I know it is contagious. I would worry that even if dcb doesn't show symptoms, dcb could still carry the bacteria, and with the heart defect condition, I personally wouldn't take the risk. Add in the part "but we've had some honesty/sickness issues in the past", and makes me even more certain to say no.

In our family we often get things and don't pass them around. That's tricky though...

I would be hesitant to take him in, as you have a medically fragile infant in care and you've had honesty issues in the past.

What is your illness policy? Do you allow mild colds? I would give a good once over when he arrives. How does he look? Check his temp, look at his nose, give a listen to him breathing. Take your time and do not let dcm leave until you finish. If anything seems off, then I would send him home without apology.

Mild colds are ok, a slight cough and runny nose...basically the cough can't be constant or disruptive to sleep, play etc and the runny nose has to be minimal. It can't be dripping all the time. But yeah that's pretty much what I did this morning. He's a bit stuffy but it's pretty minimal. Other then that he seems fine...no temp, eating normal, eyes look fine, no breathing trouble. And I'm definitely watching him closely.

Ugh. This was a tough one, and I'm kind of wishing I had just said no.

ANY time I have an infant in care, my illness policy automatically excludes siblings and it excludes anyone that has a contagious illness at home so in this case, the DCB would be excluded due to his mother's contagious illness.

I do not take risks with the littlest ones.

If I have no infant in care, I handle each of those things on an individual basis but it's automatic exclusion without question if an infant is enrolled.

I'm going to update my sick policy to include this. I almost always have infants, either my own or as dck's. I am way to worried right now and don't want to take this risk again.
