    Parent Handbook

I'm in the middle stages of opening my facility in Nashville, TN and I'm running through some loops. I am now starting on my parent handbooks and wanted to see if any of my seasoned owners or directors could tell me what all a parent handbook should consist of? Is there a easy way to do this? I'm not too sure at this moment on where to go other than looking at the subjects I need.

Your facility? According to your post in another thread, you were somewhat dishonest and aren't opening a facility but were instead offered a director position and hoping your dishonesty would in turn provide you with more honest answers from members here. (??)

So I'm confused....are you the Director (that is required to create parent handbooks per the job description) or are you the owner and would be requiring the Director to create parent handbooks?

Here is what your other post said in the thread about YOU needing to hire a Director for YOUR facility:

I don't know what she is intending on paying me just yet but I wanted to know what I should expect. the owner is one that will just sit back and collect... Meanwhile... I'm doing all of the work including parent handbooks, employee handbooks, employee applications, websites, etc. I don't know what I got myself in but I hope I am compensated for this. This daycare is in the middle stages of opening. I am 6-8 weeks out.

There's the problem with starting off with a lie. You gave yourself a bad start here, but I do believe in 2nd chances.

I just searched the Internet for sample or template parent handbooks, went through about a dozen different ones, and put my own together from there.

      Side note:
From the other thread, I got the impression that the director (you) was an actual director, i.e. experienced, but not even having the handbook yet means you are new in the field. That will lower your expected pay.

I figured it would lower the pay. I am the director however I am buying into the company which makes me a shareholder. I am very inexperienced. I don't feel the need to explain every nook and cranny I just wanted honest answers on how much I should be paid. I've since then gotten the parent handbooks together.

You don't need to explain every nook and cranny. That's your personal business. I understand it can be tricky figuring out what to say at the start, especially if you don't know the board regulars yet. I'm sure most of the regulars here will let you join the group and you will find very helpful people here. I hope your new business venture is a success.

Agree... everyone here is very helpful and there are a lot of providers here who have TONS of experience.

i think you will find it hard to get information for your field from us though, because most of us are in-home, which I know is very different than how a center operates.

              You just wanted honest answers?
....But started asking for them with a lie?

I am in no way concerned about you.

I might just be awesome but if I am it's because I am not a liar.

Google is your friend here. Look up other centers or daycares (I'm a little confused at what your needs are) and find places that post their handbooks online.

Do not copy, that is important (unless you contact them and ask - I often let new people copy a lot of my contract/handbook material, and others here do, too).

But if will give you a starting point.

That's what I was going to say! Google for ideas. Some states have templates and you just have to fill in your program's details.

Definitely don't copy anything without asking. It's happened to me and while I'm happy to help anyone who asks, I go after people who copy without asking.

I've done that, for my website hosting business. I've seen exact copies of my terms and conditions, as well as other parts of my site.
