I think you mean unpaid vacation days, right? I do not offer vacation days because I rely on the income too much.- Flag

I don't do any time period because it's never been an issue for me. Sometimes people can't help when they need to take their vacation.
The only policy I have on the subject is that if someone starts with me after September 1st, they only get one week of vacation until January 1st, when they'll get two like everyone else. My vacation time restarts January 1st 'cause that makes my life simpler,.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!- Flag

well I have one week or equilant to your weeks schedule at no cost then any after are full price. to hold spot. maybe I should change that? i dont know. I didnt want to discourage someone from spending time with there kids for one week. you know what I mean? I dont have any paid vacation for myslef. So how should I change that for this year? this is what I have in my handbook
You will be not be charged for up to 1 daycare week per family per year, provided you give me at least a 2 week notice. Anything in addition to the one week will be charged at normal rate to hold your child’s place and must be paid to me prior to your vacation.( Your vacation is equal to your normal weeks schedule.) This is based on a contract year, not calendar year.
You do not pay for my vacation days, but you must pay the alternate daycare provider. If I need to take a day off, or when I decide to take my vacation, it is your responsibility to find back up care. I will try to give you at least 2 weeks notice if there is a need for an alternate provider. (with the exception of sick days) I want to provide the best possible care for your child/children. In order for me to do this, I must remain in good health both physically and emotionally. Every year I have to take continuing education for the state to keep my license and update my Cpr and First Aide. Occasionally it may fall on a day during your daycare contracted hours. You would still be required to pay that day.- Flag

I used to have one regular week unpaid to each family. It worked out well for many years; most people took it on one of my two weeks that I take for vacation.
Then I got a family who wanted to take it one day at a time and a family that took THREE unpaid weeks ~ both my vacation weeks AND an additional week that the went on vacation. My fault for not catching it, but I had never had it happen before. Both parents were policemen too...seems like they should have more integrity, but I digress....
Anyway, now what I do it each of my vacation weeks at 1/2 your regular rate. They, in effect, are getting one unpaid week but I don't have to deal with keeping track of it and I still have some income on vacation weeks.- Flag

I dont' take vacations, but if I do, I would not charge them.
If they take vacations, I have to double check what I decided, it's either one free week, and 1/2 price for the next week, and then full price after that, or it's, 1/2 price first week, and full price every other week.- Flag

I do the same amount of days they are here a week (ft gets 5 days, if thet are here 3 days a week they get 3 days off) and they have to be with me for 6 months. Before I had ant policies about this I had a DC family with me that also took their vacation 3 weeks after starting then 2 months later pulled her kids so grandma can watch them instead. No more. Six months it is.- Flag

If they choose to be gone a different week, then they still pay me because I am open and available.- Flag

If I am understanding you all right, YOU tell the parents how much time they can take for their vacations? Sorry, I don't believe in telling parents how much time they CAN take off. They are hiring you as their daycare provider, so in other words, they are the ones that can make that decision on when they will take their vacations. I do not put in my contract how much time they can have, I just simply say that when they choose to take their vacations, it is still a full weeks payment as it is to hold their spot. I have never had a problem with doing it that way. The parents know that they need to pay even tho their child is on vacation to hold that spot. Now, I do not charge the parents when I take vacation, I don't feel it is fair, since they have to find alternative care for their child, why make them pay 2 providers when I take vacation. I try to be flexible for my parents, which they really appreciate. Times are tough these days and everyone is struggling to make ends met. If you just simply say their vacation is still a fell weeks pay to hold the spot, and your vacations are a non paid week, I'm sure they will appreciate it.- Flag

In effect, you are getting the same thing I am. Your vacation week is unpaid to them, theirs is paid to you. You are still getting paid for only one week, as I am by charging 1/2 rate for two weeks. To each their own, that's the beauty of running your own business.
I don't tell my parents when to take their vacations ~ I tell them when I am taking mine. My dcp's choose to take vacation I am off so it isn't necessary to pay another provider. It's only logical. They are clear on that if they CHOOSE to take a different week of vacation, they still pay me 'to hold their spot' as you put it.- Flag
