    Constant Green Runny Nose

I have a child who has been with me for about 1 year now.

The past 2 months she has had a constant runny nose. First it was clear and accompanied by a cough. Now it is green with no cough. Mom and Dad have been great about keeping her home and taking her to the doctor. Whenever they have taken her to the doc, the doctor says it is "from the environment" and gives DCG a clean bill of health. Mom and Dad have added a daily probiotic to DCG's diet and have tried daily allergy medications.

Had anyone had experience with a constant green runny nose, with no actual diagnoses? I am so confused by this.

That seems weird to me. I'd ask them to get a second opinion.

I'd advise the parents to take the child to an ENT.

Thank you ladies. The parents have discussed getting another pediatrician (they have not been overly thrilled with the one they have for a while) but I wasn't sure if this warranted a visit to the ENT or not.

DCP are asking me for advice. Having never been in this situation before I wasn't sure what exactly to suggest.

I don't think a 2nd opinion would hurt, but my own dd often gets back to back colds this time of year resulting in constant green snot. Disgusting. She also suffers from allergies and the Dr thinks the congestion sitting in her nose and back of the throat is a breeding ground for bacteria which also results in the green snot and says we just have to wait it out.

First step, were it my kid, I'd insist that the doctor check white blood cell count to see if there is infection. If no infection (or if there is infection that doesn't resolve with antibiotics), then I'd see the ENT. I have a deviated septum, enlarged tonsils that cause me to have a lot more than normal URI's (along with lung scarring from poorly treated pneumonia years ago). The ENT can see if there is a structural problem contributing or if there is an allergy that needs treatment.
