    Advice?

DCB (8mos) has had a nasty sounding cough for the past 2 days. Mom keeps saying that she feels like he has always had this cough  He doesnt have any other symptoms, just this cough. What should I do?

Is it disruptive to his day? Does it affect meals or sleep?

And a baby having a cough "always" doesn't concern this mom? I'd encourage her to have him examined by a pulmonologist-I have 3 kids here with an "always cough", and they all have Reactive Airway Disease, among other diagnoses. They all have nebs and inhalers, as well-they need daily meds.

I have rescue inhalers for all 3 kids, and there was an incident a few weeks ago where I nearly called an ambulance while waiting for Mom to pick up the child who was coughing uncontrollably (he doesn't always cough like that, it's usually minor). I would want a definite answer on what's going on, a treatment plan, and a rescue med.

I only keep children with slight coughs so if a child was coughing a lot I send them home. This will continue until mom takes the kid to the dr and gets a diagnosis and treatment plan that I can get on board with.

If it's just a cough that doesn't disrupt the day and there aren't any other symptoms or change in behavior/mood then I leave it.

If the cough gets so bad that the child gets bad bouts of it which make it hard for the child to breath, eat, sleep etc or if the child coughs so hard that the child spits up then I will ask the parents to pick up and recommend that the child stay home until they feel a bit better and go to the doctor.

No other symptoms, just a wet cough. Not affecting any parts of the day either. Im not sure why DCM hasnt taken him to the doctor? I havent heard him cough here, except this week-but according to her DCB has always had it  I guess I'll just keep tabs until their last day next week! Thanks!

If he's always had it at home, but hasn't had it at your house, it makes me wonder if there's something at home he's allergic or sensitive to.
