Taking 2yrs + Only??

Hi!
I was wondering if anyone does only 2 year olds and older, making it more like an in home preschool?? Wondering if there would even be a market for that?
Infants and one year olds are just not my favorite... Don't get me wrong. The kids I have right now I treat wonderfully and love like they are my own, I just don't find myself very happy and fulfilled. I taugh kindergarten for several years, so it's just a tad different with my age group I have right now (all under 2)

I run an in home preschool for 2+. For awhile it was 2.5+ due to some bad clients.

If you can make yourself unique in some way (and it sounds like you can since you're a certified teacher!) then the clients will come. I live in a SMALL community so please don't think you have to live somewhere with a large population to make it work.
I'm also a certified teacher and have mostly 2 day students. Some are 4 day. I stopped offering Fridays 1.5 years ago, upped my rate back to my old 5 day rate 6 months ago, and parents that use me for child care still make it work.

I think it depends on your community. Many of my colleagues prefer kids to be close to the 2 yr mark before they will enroll them. I find that I simply have to take the younger ones just to compete with the larger preschools in my community. Parents are pulling them out as early as age 2 to move to a "real school".

I take 18m+ and run as a playschool.

Parents want infant/low ratio care and toddler/preschool care here, so the 18m+ was my way to get kids before they had already moved beyond infant care. It works well here.

If you lived near me we would make a great team because all my babies age out by 18 months or so... haven't found anywhere I trust to send them - half go local Montessori schools when a spot opens, the rest try like the devil to have the kids kept here; NOPE... I don't do Older Toddlers or Preschoolers; my home has been infant specific for years

BTW, most my parents drive 20-30 minutes each direction to get to me & then go to work... only one parent actually lives & works here in Blount Co, the rest live & work in Knoxville or OakRidge, but drive to me

I would love to get your contact info just for future reference. All of my families would give me glowing recommendations. It will be 3 years before my oldest one is in school so it would definitely be a while! I'm planning way in advance! Haha

3 of my 4 families drive Pellissippi ... You could have been a great fit for my one kid who aged out; now I have little brother (she's 3 now & goes to Montessori) - have a few other looking for January positions. Totally depends on your community. My city has 4K in the group centers so parents get the double benefit of cheaper childcare and no need to transport. Centers have started offering 3K too so I've noticed a definite trend of losing dck the fall after they turn 3. And to make it more challenging, parents are putting their kids into centers when they turn 2 so they'll "have friends and be ready for 3K." Many FCC providers here are going to 0-2 only because over-2 is hard to find and keep.

I have done all combinations of everything!

I started out with a MW and TTH class 9am-noon.

I've done MWF, TTH 9-12.

I've done MWF Prekinder (ages 4+) 9am-2pm, TTH 9-12 (ages 3)

Some years I've offered extended care, some years I have not. Each year I just take into account what works for me and my family and consider what families that I know need in regards to care.

Starting last year I became full time, mostly because my own daughter is in school now (I also now have a baby, which complicates it all!). So, I'm open 9-5:15, M-F. I do not currently offer anything other than full time, which I count as at least 6 hrs/day. I charge based on how many hours they contract for, i.e. 9am-3pm is one rate, 9am-5pm is a much higher rate. 4 of my 6 families will be gone by 3:45 this year, which works great for getting my daughter off the bus and having my baby with me in the afternoons.

Even though I am full time now, "preschool" activities only happen in the morning time (basically 9am-noon). My own baby goes to a babysitter for these hours and then she'll bring him to me during naptime.
