    Feeling Mean...

So my 14 Mo old DCG typically takes an AM nap, but today she did not settle down for one. After lunch, she got s fresh diaper and was laid down, only to wake up an hour later screaming. I knew she was over tired, and hadn't slept enough so I went in and laid her back down, covered her with her love blanket, and told her it was still nap time. 15 minutes later I repeated the same process, and again 15 minutes after the 2nd lay down. An hour of angry screaming later, and she is sleeping soundly, and I know she will wake happy like her usual self. I just hate listening to her cry, and I feel like a big meanie when I comfort her but don't let her out of her bed. I knew there was nothing wrong with her, except still being tired, and I can reassure myself, but man, I am sure it felt like the end of the world to her!

It's a hard age. My 14 mo old granddaughter will take morning and afternoon naps if she arrives before 7:30, but if she arrives after 7:30 I need to keep her up all morning or she won't sleep in the afternoon.

Right now it's the 11 mo old who's bringing out the meanie in me. He's the happiest boy when he has a long enough nap, but SO crabby if he doesn't.

It's so hard when they are dropping the morning nap.

I have had a hard time with schedules and nappers lately so have decided moving forward that they are just going to do the afternoon nap with the group. If I do do a morning nap, it will be at my discretion, and just a short one to get them over the hump.

As for the crying, I too, feel like a big meanie. But I know it's a stage and they will get through it. And they do need the sleep.

I have a new dcb, 20 months. Naptime is horrific. He sleeps for maybe 30 minutes, wakes up and screams. He is exhausted. The good and bad thing
Is he is only here 2 days a week. If he was here 5 days a week, he would have had the pattern down already. This is his third week... As it is, I'm just thankful for the sleep he gets.

Just remind yourself you are doing it for their own good, because you really are! Hope tomorrow is better
