    What Would You Do?

I only have 2 families right now and plan on keeping it that way until next summer. One family is a teacher family and one is not. I'm contemplating switching to the school calendar for the fall but I'm not sure how to make that fair payment wise. If I don't switch to the school calendar, then I will have only one dck for all the school breaks. I can't decide if I want to cater to the teacher or the other family and how to charge. What would you do in this situation?

Can you afford to lose one of the families?
    - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

I have all teachers and possibly a sahm's child registered for the fall. I will share what I did.

I sat down and figured out what my full time rate would be charged over the school year. It was waaay too high so I chose a number that was a lot higher than my year round rate but still marketable (trial and error). Then I figured out my income if I am full year round vs school calendar with full enrollment. The difference is minimal (a couple of thousand) so I decided to try to get all teachers.

I have 4/5 spots filled for September. I have the summer off and cannot tell you how excited I am to be able to enjoy the summer months with my own kids! lovethis

Plus I'll have built in breaks throughout the year. For minimal financial loss, it's been the best idea ever. lovethis

I won't turn away a full year client but have a different pay rate for them coming year round. I would probably also align my vacation periods for full year clients to be off the same time that the school is closed for Christmas and March Break.

Yes, I can. Just don't want to term. I like both of them.

In that case, I would go with what benefits my own family. Extra time off with them.

I would love to do this myself, but my market simply won't support it.

            teacher schedule daycare hrs?

I was thinking about this the other day. what is a school calendar? is that just with the summer off? or is that also not paying during schools breaks throughout the yr.

I figured in order to be able to take the summer off for teachers I would have to make it up during the school yr. so say it is just july/aug then its about 43 week days. so used that number to figure out what wages would be lost in the summer then add that onto the daily fee to spread it over the school months. Im not sure if the fees would be to much would be about $5/6 a day more I thought. it would be no different then them just paying to hold the spot over summer though.

Curious to know if anyone does summer off for teachers and what they do or charge for it?

I did both .Teachers did not pay for the summer. They did pay for school vacations and their child stayed home. They paid two weeks tuition to hold spot at end of June. That was applied to first two weeks care at end of summer.Non refundable if they did not attend I liked the lower enrollment at Christmas and I did take Feb vacation for all families. When I retired I had worked up to 3 weeks paid vacation. The other families paid for 2 weeks in the summer plus the Feb vacation.Worked great .
