.... anyone intentionally follow or not follow the local school calendar?

As far as what? Days closed?

My contract/policies start and update on September 1, but I don't follow the school year for closings. All the public school districts and parochial schools in my area have their own calendars, so it wouldn't work.

This initial post was edited but in general I was wondering if anyone follows school calendar in terms of dates open and closed? Does anyone take summers off? etc.
