I know some of you have done this with your kids. So I have a question. While you are leaving it set for 7 days, how do you keep flies, dirt, etc out of it? I mean I can see every critter around trying to come get the sugar. I can't wrap my head around keeping this clean. Any ideas?

I've never made it with the daycare kids, but what about covering it with plastic wrap? -
We tried it with plastic wrap and filled the house with ants.

We did ours in the winter, so I personally don't have a tried and true solution... but... you could try setting them up over a tea towel sprayed with vinegar. Vinegar is a natural deterrent and ants can't follow the scent trail.
Our if you have a cake cover (or those covers they make for plants to protect them from frost), that would work.Comment
