    Benefits

I'm between accountants right now (just dumped a not-so-good-at-daycare one), so I am hoping someone here can shed some light on this. Can we, as business owners - and basically single employees - have a flex plan for ourselves? Can we get our own dental benefits, etc.?

My husband has benefits, but an additional flex plan would be wonderful, maybe a second dental plan, although I'd have to see if that actually is cost effective.

It seems like we should be able to set these things up, but I didn't know since a lot of us are a business owner with only one employee - us.

    TIA!

As a self employed person, you are not eligible for a flexible spending account(FSA), or a health savings account (HSA). You could qualify to open an Archer MSA, which is a medical savings account available only to self employed people with a high deductible health insurance plan. You can't be covered under other insurance though, so if you're covered under your spouse's health insurance you wouldn't qualify for an MSA. So basically, I think the simple answer to your question is no.

Anyone can purchase a stand alone dental insurance plan though.

My credit union offers some kind of HSA account. Try calling a credit union. (I might call mine too. To find out more)

Thanks everyone. It's too bad we can't get our own benefits. I can't imagine what I would do if I didnt have my husband. After a family member has spent the past 2 months in the hospital very unexpectedly, it gives you new respect for health insurance.
