Food Issues - Kiddo Won't Eat Fruit?!?!

I have never encounter a child who does not like fruit (he doesn't like veggies either, but that's pretty normal). He is almost 2 and has never, that I can tell, eaten a solid fruit or vegetable. When veggies are cooked into his food, no problem. But fruits/veggies on their own, nope. No bananas, no apples, no strawberries, no nothing.
Any ideas on how to get him to at least try something? His parents (and I) have been giving him those fruit/veggie pouches (basically baby food, in those pouches), but I have stopped doing that and have been just serving him small pieces of the same things the other kids eat. No luck so far

I have a 4 year old dcb who eats no veggies and the only fruit he eats is raisins and sometimes berries and Applesauce. He refuses to try any of it either.

WHY does he have to eat fruit?

My son hated (and still does) all fruit.

He didn't like veggies alot when he was littler but as he grew, he learned to like some here and there.

He is now 25 and likes alot of veggies but still to this very day does not like any fruit. Not fresh, cooked or fruit flavored even.... just does not like it.

I can't think of a single vitamin or nutrient in fruit that can't be found elsewhere. Not to mention the sugar...natural sugar but still sugar so I don't really see an issue with a kid that doesn't like fruit.

I'd get creative and encourage him to experiment and find veggies he likes before I'd spend a single second stressing over the fruit aspect.

Just keep doing what you are doing for sure as it is all you can do. It is the same with veggies so just keep introducing both.

A few of my DC children would not eat fruit. Then I tried serving it with tiny forks. For some reason they then would eat it.I think it was the texture on their fingers.

I still use the same cookbook I got when I started the child care "Deceptively Delicious", which uses the same technique you described by cooking the fruits and veggies into the food. I actually have had the best success with that, but over the past few years I have noticed more and more products on the market that do the same thing. I have found Popsicles, juices, popcorn and a favorite around here Veggie Chips.

I know that doesn't really get them to eating the raw fruits and veggies, but it is a start. I do serve some raw items, like carrots, broccoli and some fresh fruits. Sometimes giving them something to dip it in like ranch dressing, yogurt, Nutella, etc. makes them more likely to at least try it. I think parents will have to pick it up from there.

I wonder if it's a texture thing - feeling it on his hands and in his mouth, plus the effort of having to chew it. If he's used to pureed fruit that comes in a pouch he may not like touching the fruit or having to put forth the effort to chew it.
