Dental Work for 2 yr old

So dcb is having a tooth pulled this morning he fell and broke half of it off. They are putting him under with laughing gas. Mom said we will be back after the dentist 😮 I was caught off guard didnt even get a chance to tell her he can't come if he has been under. What do I do now? Let him come? Would you let a child come to daycare after dental work? I've never had this situation come up before. ????

I would not. There's no reason he should be with anyone other than mom or dad after having dental work at that age.

~I would go ahead and let him come(barring any major problems of course & if he is "normal") since you already basically agreed to let him come earlier, regardless of the fact you were caught off guard, you did agree.

I would call/send text: Dcm, after consideration, dcb will not be able to return to care today after the dentist. As long as he is up and going tomorrow, we will see him then.

I would NOT take this child back into care. Anytime that my dd's had a sedative, they were required to 'rest quietly' and have very close supervision. I am sure that the dentist will have similar restrictions with laughing gas. Probably even tell dcm that he needs to be kept home.

I would send dcm a quick text: "sorry, I was caught of guard when you said it, but dcb can't return until tomorrow. hope it all goes well"

I exclude children for 24 hours after ANY medical procedure. Dental stuff included.

I agree with the text about being caught off guard.

I agree with PP's who would exclude. Little one is likely to be in a lot of pain after the procedure.

Definitely should be home. Ugh...I can't imagine he's going to feel great after having it done He should be home where he's most comfortable.

                    Yep.
"Dcm, I was caught off guard by your comment before little toothless' dentist appt. because of his age, the procedure he's having done and the medication I would prefer he not return until tomorrow but please text and let me know how things went. We will see you tomorrow unless the doctor sees a reason to keep him out longer. Just let me know.

Would dcm go back to work after SHE had a tooth pulled? I think not.

I would text her back "Sorry dcm, I didn't realize the extent of dcb's dental work today. He will not be able to attend but can return in 24 hours if he is feeling up to it."

I DO NOT take kids after ANY kind of medication or medical procedure- even vaccinations.
