What Happens When You or Your Child Is Sick?

As a home provider, what do you do?

My son woke up Saturday morning with a full-blown cold. My FT infant also had it over the weekend. I have a part timer who comes in today at 2 who wasn't here since Thursday morning, I doubt she has it. She was also on antibiotics last week for strep throat she had the previous weekend.

Now I have an hour until she is here. Would you text DCD with a heads up? I doubt they'd have back up care available on such short notice. Will she be OK since she was just sick and on antibiotics last time she was around the two sick kids?

Once one has a cold, they all pretty much are getting the sniffles by that time. So I guess my question is, what do you do when your sick or your child is sick? I'm coming down with it as today my throat is starting to feel scratchy and I am getting the sniffles!

I practice ocd hand washing and try to go to bed early. I figure we are probably all exposed at the point it gets to me or my child so we limit germ transfer and get on w our day.

If it meets the exclusion policy, I exclude. Meaning if my husband was not available to keep our kids separated from the group, then I closed.

Luckily, We have outgrown this phase of life. It was difficult during the toddler years for sure.
      - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

        I did the same.

I felt as if it wasn't really fair to expect families to follow an illness policy if I didn't too.

If I'm puking I close, but otherwise I stay open.

I've never had to close for my own children's illnesses. I was lucky that they didn't get sick much, until they were old enough to be quarantined away from the daycare kiddos.

I always give a heads up so that parents can make the decision on whether or not to send. If my child or I am too sick then the daycare is closed. sometimes my husband stays at home to help out but usually I close.
