    The Ants Are Here!!!

Okay admittedly most people don't get excited about ants. I found an ant farm on clearance at WM not long ago, and remembered how much DS enjoyed his when he was little so I picked one up. Today the ants I ordered finally arrived, I guess it must have finally been warm enough to ship them. DCB is so excited about them. I like these new ant farms much better with the gel. The one DS had had the sand, and we had to be so careful not to bump it and such. The gel should be a little more stable. And I can replace the gel! Ants only live 1-3 months in them, but they are cheap. And come summer we may collect our own!

Great now I have to go look up the ladybugs and butterflies.
Do they have a habitat like the ants?

The ladybugs do, the butterflies are in a net like cage. You release both kinds once they metamorphosize into their final forms haha.

My son's homeschool kindergarten curriculum came with ants and butterflies! I'm more excited for the butterflies honestly . But I know they will love the ants too. I may have to add in ladybugs

We've done ants before, by collecting our own. The first year it worked out so well and when we did it the following year, we must have collected from 2 different colonies. That didn't work out so well. But I love watching them dig and work.
Those of you who have done ladybugs, was it a lot of fun? Which would be better? Ladybugs or butterflies? I've wanted to do both but can't pick which one. Which is the easiest, as in, they will live and fly away?

I think both ladybugs and butterflies are easy! They both come with their own food. When you buy the kit, you have to order the bugs separately. When they arrive you just dump them in the habitat. I haven't done the butterflies in a long time. But I remember it being easy. Once they transform the butterflies need an orange, the ladybugs need nothing.
