I actually did that once as an adult with other adults/children and it was very cool when the ribbons wrapped around the pole. Also we made and wore flower crowns.
yes, we do May baskets just like you describe, and hang them on the neighbors doors or mailboxes. We do a Maypole too. I hammer a piece of pvc into the ground and insert a pole that has the streamers or ribbons attached. The kids will dance and play with it on and off for days. And we make crowns from willow branches twisted into a circle and woven in so it stays.

Thank you. Some think it's old fashioned but the kids always love it and the neighbors do too.
The little boys look like Caesar and the little girls like little fairies

Johnny Appleseed's birthday (Sept. 26), Groundhog's day, May day with baskets (we also do a May pole with streamers or ribbon-I haven't thought to do May crowns-good idea), some years we do Chinese New Year, July 4th. That's about it except the traditional American holidays already mentioned.

Oh aslo, New Years is celebrated with a dress-up dance party. Kids wear a Halloween costume or bring one that is easy to put on. VERY FUN and they love to have another day to wear a costume!

Thank you all for your suggestions and ideas. I wrote all of the days and ways you celebrate down. I'm taking notes now and will work on enhancing my curriculum soon.
