    OT-children and death

My son is 6 and tonight, we went out for dinner and he got very emotional and asked what would happen if we (his parents) died. He said he was very sacred we may die and he would be left alone. Of course, this hit me hard and I told him that he would never be left alone (his aunt , grandparents, ect would be there for him and his sister). He was very worked up about it and asked me many questions. We are not religious, so I was wondering if there is anything you all can offer for advice in how to explain death to a young child that is not scary or at the very least, is explainable to a young child. TIA!

Here is a book that gently explains death through nature. Suitable for young children.
There are many good childrens' books about dying, death and grief. Read them yourself first to see what you think is most suitable for your child.
