    1 Spot 3 Interviews, Vent

    So you guys know I have 1 spot opening in less than 2 weeks so I have been conducting interviews. I have been trying to take your advice so I know who to pick, if any.

    1- would need state assistance but just sending in app now which takes at least 30 days to get approval. Super nice but a no
    2-can't really read. Don't want to judge but did stay quite a long time. also needs state assistance but started the process already.

    3-comes friday. cousins with one of my families now, but never came 2 months ago to interview. Hoping and thinking positive for this one. She wanted to enroll right away but I told her I don't do on the spot enrollment (Your advice, thank you)

    I got another call today for part time care, but I prefer full time over part time. We also have DH sister who just had a baby but she wants us to open 30 minutes earlier and I am skeptical over her. Hopefully Friday goes well.

    May I also ask:

    Is it okay if someone you interviews calls back saying they are interested in the spot, but you do not want to enroll them? I know the answer is yes, but I wouldn't feel comfortable telling them over the phone that they weren't the best fit or we chose someone else. Maybe I just need a backbone?

      Why a no to number 1? Just because of the state taking 30 days? They can - and should - pay you directly anyway. Then credit their account when the state pays.

        I try to make sure to tell interviewees that I will contact them within 3 business days to let them know if I am offering them the spot.

        I don't wait for them to call me and I don't let them take those reins.

        If someone does call you and say that they want the spot you can politely tell them you are still conducting interviews for the right fit and that when you have completed all your interviews (even if you don't have any more) YOU will contact them.

          I do this sort of. I tell everyone that I will contact them within 48 hours and let them know if I am offering a spot or not. And if I offer them the spot, they then have 72 hours to accept it and do paperwork and make payment.

            I contact within 48hrs of the interview & give them 24 hrs to decide... I have 3 families wanting care in the next month for newborns (like all will be 6 weeks old by March 1); one family put a deposit & signed intent to contract 2 weeks before baby was born, but she still hasn't contracted, the 2 others are interviewing within the week. No matter what I have a drop-in filling the spot 2 days each week until a FT contracts

              I offered her that but she works at a retail store making minimum wage so that wasn't an option for her.

                So how does she plan to keep working until it goes through? No matter what provider she chooses, that provider has to get paid.

                    Right now her mother and sister have been helping her. But her mom is starting to help with church and sister wants to go back to work. So she can wait the extra time I suppose. I let her know slot is not guarenteed to stay open up front.

                      or one that will feel sorry for her situation and agree to wait to be paid.

                      We read about those situations daily in this profession.

                        Yeah definitely won't be me. Not to sound rude, but nice doesn't pay bills. I learned hard way. No discounts given up front anymore either. What happens when they find out how much state covers, how much they are responsible for, and then decide that's too much. I refuse to be be put in that predicament. You all have taught me a lot along with experience.

                          But it won't be waiting to be paid. At least in Kansas if I provided care before the state approved it (this was 12 years ago but I can't imagine it has changed), they wouldn't go back and back pay that. Either the parent paid it or I was providing free care.

                            In CT they back pay. But I still have parents pay ahead. For example, have one dcb turns 2 tomorrow. He was here for months, mom applies for state assistance, and gets denied but still keeps paying with no problem. All depends on parebt.

                            Sorry I dont write complete sentences. Its been a long day.

                              Our state will backpay to the date the application was submitted.

                              Many providers in my state have been screwed out of payment by waiting because of a similar situation.. family applies, has provider wait to be paid, family gets approved and moves along to another care arrangement and provider is left having worked for free.
