    So sad

So my aunt (lives in PA) was telling me about the storm and aftermath it caused. She told me of both of these incidents and I just had to find out more. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...ad-clears-snow

With all of our training, why did I NOT know to make sure the tail pipe is cleared of snow?! I was telling my husband and he knew that the tail pipe should be cleared first. Is it a common sense thing? I'm quite embarrassed that I didn't know this little fact. My heart aches for those families

Yes, I knew, I'm in Minnesota though so having over a foot a snow at a time can be a regular occurrence. Habitually after a big snowfall I have always cleared snow from around the tailpipe first.

I thought the same as you-I KNOW that the tailpipe needs to be clear, but I don't think it would have occurred to me. I was stuck at an interstate rest area during a surprise blizzard years ago, and it never occurred to me to check the tailpipe. Luckily, the snow wasn't that deep yet!

I knew it, but only because I learned it somewhere. I think it is impossible for everyone to know everything.

Same here. I think its something we just know due to it being something we HAVE to know because of the climate here.

I am in ND and it is the same here. Clear the tail pipe and stay with your car if you get stuck on the road. We also have winter survival kits in our car...my mom never let us leave the house without one

                Very very sad.
I know the danger of a blocked tailpipe but not sure if it would have occurred to me.

Just updating those who were thinking of these families... The 3 year old little girl passed away yesterday May these beautiful souls rest in peace.

Such sweet innocent children, such a horrific tragedy.
