    The Copy Cat

    The little one that copies literally everything that is said all. day. long. I'm hungry...Dcg: I hungy. That book looks interesting..Dcg: Book looks interesting. May I have more milk? Dcg: More milk (even though she hasn't touched her cup yet. Baby hits the table during meal time. Dcg: hits table during meal time. Baby cries. Dcg pretends to cry. Oh.my.word. I keep telling myself...this too shall pass.

    Well I guess I would just ignore her as much as possible when she does it. If she doesn't get attention for it hopefully she will quit.

      That's what I've been doing. Like I don't even hear her. But boy does it grate on my nerves after a bit.

          I have a dcg who does the same thing. She either repeats what's been said by the other kids or she copies their actions. She's 3, very verbal, highly intelligent and a little quirky. I don't think she does it for attention. I swear she has Asperger's Syndrome and what I'm seeing is her version of echolalia. I try to remind myself that she's probably just trying to process what's going on around her but it can grate on my nerves, too. Sometimes, I'll jokingly say, "I hear an echo. Does anyone else hear that echo in the room?" She's smart enough to know I'm talking about her behavior. She'll say, "It's me!" She laughs and the repeating will stop just long enough for my nerves to settle down before she starts up again.
