    Indoor Gross Motor Room

Hello! So, I've got a very different set up now from before. I went from 7 kids ages 1-5, down to 3 little ones in the 2 and under crew and my 4yo. I'm enjoying the change. Since we spend a lot more time indoors now that its cold outside I've decided to create an indoor active play space. It's just going to be in a small bedroom, but I think it will give the toddlers an outlet for movement during the day. My vision for the room is to create a space where they jump, climb, move, and play using their bodies rather than having a bunch of toys. I don't want this room to require much clean up when we're done with it (ie; totes of toys to dump, things to pick up). I'm on a budget so I'm pretty much recycling what we have except I do want to create a sensory board (found cool ideas on pinterest!) Here are my ideas so far...bringing in the little tikes slide from outside, a pack n play filled with balls like a ball pit, a tent/tunnel toy we already have, possibly a short basketball goal, a diy balance beam low to the ground, and the sensory board. Does anyone have a room like this? What types of things do you have included? Ideas on how to make it better?

This is a really good time of year to get nice cardboard boxes. You can set them up as big blocks for stacking and knocking down, or get a really big one to make a fort out of.

Tents and tunnels is a good one. Push or ride on toys for days when you clear everything out. Even an old mattress for jumping on! My friend had an old mattress in her basement for the kids to jump on and they loved it!

I put a oval rug in the middle and had small ride on toys or pull toys .We use music and taught them to all go in the same direction(TOOK LONGER THAN YOU THINK).the slide on foam mat and some balls worked for me.The pull toys I did have to add "leashes"so they could actually pull them.

You can buy a wooden plank and sand it all around and use it as a really low balance beam with 2 pillows on the end. Like an inch off the ground . You can use it in a lot of ways if you use ropes to tie it securely to something. It can be a ramp. It's easy to hide away like under or behind a sofa. You can use hula hoops to make a tunnel to go thru....
