    Appropriate Mouthing Items

I didn't want to hijack another thread, so here is a spin-off.

I have always been a DCP who tried to break the mouthing habit around age 2. But, the more I read here, the more I am rethinking my ideas about it still be needed at the older ages.

So - for those of you who say to give her things she can mouth, what do you offer? What specific items to you give out to chew on? I have a couple of 3 and 4 year olds who still put everything in their mouths.

I have the nuby silicone teethers with bristles. Two I keep in the freezer and two I keep out of the freezer.

For 3s and up we use chewy sticks from Discount School Supply. They're stored in plastic containers with a paper towel at the bottom (to absorb saliva and water). Each child has their own. Initials are carved into the stick itself and the containers are labeled with names.
