If I were you and just starting out, I would go to this link and contact your State Resource & Referral. They will help you navigate through the licensing process and answer all your questions. Every state is different of course, but your county should have someone who handles licensing and inspections, and some have classes for people interested in becoming providers. In my state, it is required to take an informational class before applying for a license.

I do encourage you to reach out to your Resource & Referral. They are full of great information, and they usually can give you an approximate range of how much to charge for services.

Good luck, and keep in touch!

I'm also in Michigan and this is the link to Michigans childcare licensing http://www.michigan.gov/lara/0,4601,...2366--,00.html and this one is for the resource and referral agency http://greatstarttoquality.org/
These two sites should be able to answer your questions.

Correct me if I'm wrong but your location is listed as "California" next to your name. So if thats the case then you need to look here: http://www.ccld.ca.gov/pg411.htm

You need to get your First Aid/CPR classes done, an Orientation done (these each cost about $25-$70 each) and then you have to file for the license and get inspected etc. As for how you get paid? You are your own boss....you make your rate and the parents pay YOU. You can look up some local home daycare and ask what their rates are (though don't tell them your a future daycare or they might choose not to tell you anything, we can get competitive out here) or just think of a price that you think is worth it and charge that. In my part of CA I charge $220 a week for infants (that is for care M-F from 6am to 6pm). I only take infants so I can only have 4 kids under 2 at any time.

This link has a lot of good stuff on it regarding the questions you have. It also includes samples of forms, parent contracts, policies, payment, etc.It is not state specific though, so make sure you also check your state's licensing requirements at the link Black Cat sent you.
