Double check the directions, but if you're using it like it was designed I doubt it.

I think I need a new type. The head one can differ between one degree if I take the temp 5 minutes apart.

you mean a tempanic or a forehead? My tempanic I don't add a degree but the forehead I do. (and yup, I take it with both).

Tempanic looks like an ear thermometer? Mine is just for foreheads.
