One of my dcb's is 2 as of last May. He prefers to play alone and doesn't like it when people get in his space. If they play near him, he hits. If they have a toy he decides he wants, he hits. He hits me out of frustration, too. Something is off here. He is very smart. Sweet when alone. No siblings. No real family around, so no cousins or anything. Most of my kids don't have siblings, so I can recognize that behavior compared to this dcb's. Suggestions? Thoughts? Advice? He's really wrecking the flow of my daycare.

I was thinking that too. I always tell kids use your words.
Is sitting by him when he plays and option? This way you could be proactive about his hitting. I had one that didn't have verbal skills and I had to do this.
I sat right next to her and when i would see other kids come near her I would say something like oh Susie wants to play with you, do you wan't to play with susie? In the beginning it was always NO, and so I would say let's use nice words (even though I knew she couldn't talk) and say no thanks, I am playing by myself, I will play with you later. It took about a month or so of me doing this before one day she said no thanks to the kids coming up to her.
She is 2.5 now and she talks our ears off. She now just says no thanks I play you later.
I believe if we want or expect the children to do something, the only way we can do this is by modeling it for them, both physically and verbally. Kids are smart, they will catch on and get it.- Flag

He is very verbal for his age. It seems like his social/emotional skills are waaaay off. I'm just not sure how to handle it. He gets upset if I sit by him, because he doesn't like people to be too close when he is playing by himself. Although he has no problem jumping on others or playing with the other dck's when he is feeling like it. For the most part, he's happy just to play with trucks in a corner. When we are outside, all he wants to do is throw dirt.
Issues happen when he decides to join in and play with others, or people want to play close to him. No one really wants to play with him though. They don't want to get smacked.- Flag

wow....thats tuff.
I have one like that and she is awaiting an eval by the district. Very unpredictable what they are going to do. My kid does not hit, but does not like me near her or others near her. Some days i can hug her, some days i cannot.
Have you addressed any of this with the parents?- Flag

Parents do not want to think anything is off, but they don't have any comparison.- Flag
