    Am I crazy?

I have a new family that just started with me in September. Moms a teacher.

The older child will be 3 at the beginning of December. He has some major speech issues, as well as a couple other minor issues. He is a BIG boy (not overweight but tall and solid) Mom has started potty training at home and has said he is doing well. She is just going diaper less. The only thing she's asked is if I could have him sit on the potty at times throughout the day. This isn't a problem as this is something I usually do with kids this age at diaper changes.
And basically he sits and does nothing. Then pees in the diaper.

I have been thinking of taking the diaper. Normally I wouldn't do that unless the child was better known to me and showing signs of readiness here. But changing three kids in diapers may have addled my brains. ::

    Crazy? Would you attempt it?

I wouldn't do it but that doesn't mean you're crazy.

I'm a huge fan of the 3 day potty training method, which involves completely eliminating diapers. It allows the child to actually FEEL the pee running down their leg (and unfortunately onto your floor) and they make the connection in their brain that it's an uncomfortable sensation. Then they make the choice on their own to put it in the toilet instead of having an accident.

It doesn't work well in group care I'm afraid, because you have to give that child your 100% attention throughout the process. I do tell parents that if they are successful in the 3 days at home, I will continue it here and we do have the very occasional accident. But if done correctly, it's AMAZING!

So long story short, yes I would do it because it sounds like dcm is having success at home with it. And I have hardwood floors and a way to block the child from sitting on my furniture.

I wouldn't do it either but I do think you are a bit "crazy" .....LOL!

The reason I wouldn't do it is just that I don't want to.

I am over "assisting" parents in these types of processes.
Assisting usually ends up meaning I do the bulk of the work.
        So nope.

I am also a HUGE fan of the 3 day method. Worked great every time I've used it but it IS a lot of work and it is not at all conducive to group care.
Add that to the "I just don't want to" feeling/mode I've been in, and its just not happening here.

Oh, and having 3 kids I diapers? Soooo NOT feeling for you... ::
My group is SUPER young this year and I have 8...YES, 8 in diapers.
Several who should have been trained by now but the parent(s) have yet to do anything other than complain about it so.... I would rather change 8 kids' diapers than to do the work a parent should be doing.

I've had mostly preschoolers for a while so ANY in diapers is a big deal here

I just am having a though time with this kiddo. He grunts and points, cries a lot, etc because he is desperate for speech therapy. I feel that if he's potty trained it would be ONE less issue with him

3 in diapers, oh you lucky duck! I have one day with 3, 2 days with 4, and 2 days with 5. When my assistant is here on Monday and Friday mornings, we have 7 in diapers!!!

I might start getting prep work in place. Self dress skills, intro to the potty, hand washing skills, signing when he has to go.

              Other than that, nope!

Yes! I have issues with kids not wearing any clothes at home during PT and then not wanting to even try dressing themselves here. Dressing themselves, or at least trying, is part of PT at Daycare.
I'm also over assisting like this as I do end up doing the bulk of the work and I just DON'T WANT TO. It's the dcp's job

I just had an interview where a potential dcp said "He is potty trained but he won't go unless you tell him to and he has to have you pull his pants down, put him on the potty, wipe him and pull his pants up."

She didn't like my response "Then he is not potty trained."
