    Should I go for it?

so all of my kids but one family get picked up by 430. this one family has two kids with me and claims that they can't pickup until 5:15 daily. Now they are paying out the nose for this later time frame, but as of recent, all of a sudden the kids are now getting picked up at 445 on Fridays so that they can attend a sport they are both playing.

I would LOVE to get off work on Friday's at 445. They told me it will only be for one month. So question is, now that I know they can pick up earlier, do I make the move and tell them sorry, new Friday pick up is 445. He is your new LOWER rate??

Also, I should add, both parents work from home about a 30 second commute from my house. Also my own child and another dip who work in retail locally tell me daily that they see them out shopping at the end of the day before coming to pick up.

Like I said, they are paying the much higher rate for later care, but for me it's just not worth the additional time for the money that I am making. I would rather have the time. I would get to go see my own kids in their sports and actually get to take them if I force them to move to at least the earlier Friday pick up.

I don't want to ask, I am going to just say here is the new rate for the new adjusted early pick up time.

should I go for it? would you do it this way?

A few months ago I'd have suggested you just stay with it for the money. Not now. I changed my hours drastically and am now working 7 hours daily instead of 11. So worth the loss of income. Do it!

Whether the family can or can't make the earlier pick up time shouldn't really factor into it if you truly don't want to stay open later than 4:30 on Fridays.

Make a decision based on YOUR needs/wants and not based on how it may or may not affect your clients if the money is not your goal or end game.

If its the money, make it worth your while so that you don't ever feel like you are giving more than you are getting.

If it's time then do what YOU need to do. Time wasted is not time well spent and is time you will never get back.

when it comes down to it, its not about how much money I am making any more, I don't think that any amount of money can pay me to go back to the time frame that they are asking for. especially now that I know they don't really need it like they claimed before.

heck, I'd make it 4:45 every day!!! Of course I am the one who is still open till 5 for just one family when all the others leave at 4:30 but I do know this family really needs it and even getting here for 5 is a struggle, but when they age out I am replacing with 4:30 pick up only!!!

I would just put out 2-week notice as of 15 October 2013 new business closing times on Fridays will be 4:30 PM.

When they approach you, I’d tell them it’s a business decision, their rates will be adjusted. I wouldn’t bend for them.

A similar thing happened to me - I realized that when families had activities they could be on time. Changed my hours and never looked back.

That sounds amazing, and you should definitely do it!! I'm toying with that idea myself, due to my last Friday parent picking up at 5:30 on the dot instead of at 4:30 when she gets off work. Makes me crazy. Well, crazier. ::

thanks everyone, I know that there are some parents that truly just can't pick up any earlier They really do have to work. But being that I know these things about this family and then all of a sudden they can leave earlier when they want to, well then I guess I can close earlier when I want to.

                            update

                            so I did it.

I just put out a two week notice of closing time for Fridays. I made certain that they understood that this was a permanent decision that we will be closing every friday a 430.

I also informed them that it was no longer making smart business sense to stay open for an additional 45 every day, so effective Oct 15, I would need to increase the rates for a pick up past 430pm. I am going to jump the price by $10 a day.

what do I have to loose? besides needing to replace two kids...
