    Well, That Answers That!

A lady posted an ad on our local buy and sell fb page for childcare. I replied, asking if she was registered or licensed. She answered me, saying she had sent me a message--I didn't get it, but I nicely stated that it was required by the state to be either listed, registered, or licensed, and said some weren't aware of that when they started up. The ad was deleted shortly after. Guess we have our answer, huh?

Check your other inbox, sometimes it comes up later.

I have asked before and I got "other SAHM do it, why can't I"

Because you are breaking the law and so are they!

I finally did go to the computer and check my other folder. She had replied "I am working on both" to answer my question about being registered or licensed. Umm...you can't be both. And if she were working on it, she would know that it's illegal to have any kids in care now.

Happens all the time where I'm at...mostly 'cause it's a military community and so almost ALL the SAHM start doing care without any type of license and if you bring it up they get SUPER pissy/defensive. Makes it hard to run a legitimate business since they are all "Well ____only charges THIS much!" and "I babysit too! How much do you charge?" and "Do you do drop ins? I need care tonight at 3pm!" (and it's already 2:30) plus they all tend to want to send their kids to their friend who does it for cheap or free.

I am glad my state allows us to watch children without being licensed or registered. I would never do childcare in a state that required licensing for even one child unrelated to you. Although, I am planning my exit strategy, so regardless, I don't want the liability anymore and I wan tmy house back!

I know it happens all the time anyway. It just gets to me when people blatantly advertise, even calling themselves a 'preschool', and they haven't had to do any of the things we legal providers have had to do. It may very well be a wonderful environment for children...but then why not just be legal? I saw on her profile pic that she has 4 children of her own, 3 of which are in the infant to preschool age, so the most she could take would be three. And that may be the reason she isn't getting registered.

I have that here also. It is legal here as we can have six without being licensed. But some of these people are not really putting the time and effort into it and taking to many kids, and it hurts those of us doing a good job even at a fair price. But I hate the places that some parents will put their kids to save a few bucks.
