Fever and called for pick up

40 minutes ago. Just got a text that they are just leaving the city.

They have 20 minutes to show up before late fees are applied. I have half a mind to term.

Do you have policies on time allotted for pick up?

I allow 30 minutes total from the time I made contact for the parent to arrive and have the child picked up and gone.

I don't live in a huge metro area so 30 minutes is more than enough time.

Do you suspect a dope and drop at all?

Nope but I suspect they are taking their sweet time.

They travel together so one went to get the other. It took 40 mins for a 15 mins trip.

I allow one hour. More than enough time.

Showed up with one minute to spare. Told her it's cutting it too close and she has more than ample time.

Not having a good week with dcps.

I give a certain amount of time before I call the emergency contact person. I don't have my contract handy at the moment but I think it is 30min. It kind of scares parents to think you would go ahead and call an emergency contact.

Next time they text and are that far away text back and say "ok as per my policies, emergency contact is being called". It will definitely get them to get their act together.

Oh they replied. Just took their sweet a$$ time getting here. Explained to her that she was pushing the boundaries of what I consider acceptable and that one hour is more than enough time to get things together and pick up a sick child.

I am just typing up my email to them now to reiterate and make sure that it is absolutely clear.

This part of the job does get easier, right?
