    $100 a day!

I had a vacation day last month and one of my daycare families used their teen neighbor for the day for their child. The teen's mom just told me they paid her $100 for the day!! Sometimes I wish I was a teen babysitter making $10/hr. instead of a professional daycare provider who makes $4/hr. ::::

Wow! good for that teen I hope you said "Well, I guess you'll never complain about my rates again!" :: I think when I nannied 15 years ago as a teen I made $7 an hour. Not too shabby back in the day.

I've been in similar situation. Kinda Weird to hear how much more parents pay. Did they say they would use her again? ::

I think the main difference is that a nanny is one on one in your home.
With a daycare, you have to drop them off and pick them up, there are multiple other children, etc.
So $10 for a nanny can't really be compared to $4/ hr for daycare when there are 5 or 6 (for example) other families paying $4 per hour as well. So a nanny makes $10/ hr while a daycare provider makes $20-24.

I'm assuming there is a reason the child usually comes to daycare vs having a nanny. Nannies get expensive.

My 15 year old teen babysitter charges 12 dollars an hour which is at the low end in my area. She doesn't drive so she has to be picked up and dropped off.

You make $4 an hour? I knew I lived in the wrong place. I make half that, and I'm at the high end.

I make $4.44 an hour but I'm considering just rounding it up to $5 for my civilian families...it added out to $4.44 with the military rate, high end area (San Diego,CA) but makes it hard to charge my civilian families when I have to pro-rate.

I wish I made $20-24/hour!! I make $10.80/hour (before taxes)....that's with 4 full time daycare kids ($135/wk/kid which is avg in my area) I would have to start charging $200/week to earn $20/hr! Not going to happen.

In Vegas, I charged $125-155 depending on when people signed on.
I was making $15-20 per hour with 6 kids. Only 2 were full time though.

My dd is 16 and charges $15/hr now to babysit.

I make about $25/hr with all of my daycare kids combined right now.

this wasn't really a nanny - it was a 15 year old babysitter for the one day, watched in the 15 yr old's house (its only a few houses away from the dc family).

not sure where you live but houses here START at about 350k so I bet its all relative in the end (unless you have high COL and that lower income, then it would really ****!!).
