    How Do I

I have a one year old (just). I've had this little one for a few months. Child is on two bottles a day, and organic liquid baby food marked for 6 to 8 month old's. Mom has been wanting to get baby to start eating adult foods, but wants me to start giving it to baby so that if anything happens then child is in my care (since I have cpr). The thing is, is that baby does not chew anything, gags at any kind of food other then the liquid food.

Baby cereal - has to be basically water or else child gags and sick up.
Farley's brisket - gags as soon as it hits child's tongue.
Jared food with chunks - has to have extra liquid food added and each time a piece of food other then the liquid goes in child gags and gets sick.

How or what should I do to help this little one. Should I let mom do the food tests first?
Child does have front teeth and some back ones starting.

I don't introduce any new foods here. I tell parents that if child is on purees, that they need to provide.

I would tell mom to take a cpr course and talk to her ped. If child is gagging with purees, maybe there is an issue to be dealt with?

I would insist that Mom take care of it. You tried and it isn't working out so she needs to give it a go.

Sounds like baby may have a legitimate sensory issue. Could be a texture thing. That is a real challenge for some children. The baby should be evaluated by a dr. They may qualify for therapy under OT/speech. I think both therapists worked with my little one that had issues with that.

Mom needs to start any and all new foods especially since the child is still eating jarred & they should have been weaned off the formula already (however if the child isn't eating table food, the formula is probably most the child's nutrients); they may need to visit the pediatrician if the child can't swallow without gagging to rule out other issues.

I had a 11 mo a couple years ago, who had the same thing going on for months. No solids what so ever. Gag every time. Mom took baby in to the doc, and they said baby was allergic to milk. Which made complete sense because I would have milk in a sippy along with the food. Baby wouldn't eat the food, so baby would drink milk. Turns out the baby's throat would basically close up due to the milk, so baby couldn't swallow food. I would suggest taking baby to the doc, incase there is an allergy of some sort.
