How Much Info Do You Give Parents Of Infants About Solid Food Feeding?

My almost 6mo old dcb started solids at home a few weeks ago. Rice cereal and green beans. Since he started he's been super fussy here and pooping very little. He was pooping several times a day here before. He hasn't pooped here or at home in 5 days now. Still within the range of normal for a breastfed baby, but not normal for him. I think he's not quite ready for solids and he probably is a bit stopped up from all the cereal. He is behind on other milestones, so it would make sense that maybe his digestive system is behind too. Should I offer them advice or wait until they ask? Or maybe it's none of my business what they do? Dcd dropped off this morning saying they gave him a whole container of prunes this morning hoping he would go for me and not them:confused: It kind of irritates me that they would expect me to deal with a blowout of their own doing. Give me some perspective ladies and gents!

Best thing I've found, someone shared it here several years ago.

I don't involve myself in feeding solids until the food program requires it at 8 months. Until that time, it's the parents responsibility to start the process and keep track of foods until 8 months. I rarely serve baby cereal other than lunch and even then, the child is usually only offered the cereal and then most often refuses or focuses on the other food components.

I would also have told the dad after the prune comment that, that is not acceptable at all. It's like giving a 4 yr old a laxative and dropping off with nothing but a "good luck!"

I would send the child home immediately if they seem to be in pain or uncomfortable enough to not sleep, eat or play as normal.

Thanks! Wasn't sure if it was right of me to tell them not to feed their child something, but I will definitely mention to perhaps save the prunes for a time when they can deal with the blowout. Nothing yet today from him, so the joke may be on them! ::

"Oh by the way dad, the prunes you mentioned this morning didn't seem to help at all so I served baby some more of the for both lunch and afternoon snack. Hopefully it helps! Good luck and have a great night!" ::

I've been in the constipated/new to solids situation. I brought it up to the parents, showed them the max amounts of food (according to usda). Nothing. I went back to just formula since the usda says 0-3 on the components anyways. Within 2-3 days dck was back to normal.
