Drop offs are getting longer and longer

Ok, so they are only creeping up to the 5 min mark but that is too long in the morning. Lots of kisses, lots of 'waves', lots of trying to get dck to 'perform'. A handoff is done begrudgingly. Ok, so this is obviously getting annoying to me.

My group is about to grow over the next few weeks and b/c my door is upstairs from the play area, I do not want to be away from the group for longer than I have to. I need to nip these shaningans in the butt.

I have thought about allowing parents to come in and bring child down to us but I know this family will draaaag it out. And then I can't ensure that door is closed properly, either. Plus I've had issues with dcps wandering my upstairs area in the past.

I need a quick in, bye mom and dad, hand off and out.

I do already address this at interviews and in policies so this will be more of a reminder.

    Dear Dcps,

As a reminder, drop offs and pick ups are easiest for all children if this transition time is done quickly. Please make sure your child is ready to enter the childcare setting in a calm manner and keep your goodbyes brief. It is not possible for me to remain at the door for long so I must insist that these handoffs are kept to the minimum.

    Thank you.

Too snarky? Not clear enough? Address that there are other children here requiring my care?

So this morning went much better. 30 secs, if that.

I put my arms out and said to come on in, we were waiting for her, and it worked this morning

It's tricky because dcm understands and is onboard but dcd is a little clingy...

I would send the note home. When giving it I would explain ehat you need to get back to the others..If Dad is not ready I would nicely say "hey I will give you a few minutes,I need to check the kids"shut the door come back in 2 minutes.Take child have a great day Dad. I used to have the parents come in but like you I was downstairs.I never felt comfortable trusting them to close the door properly. The quick goodbye worked best.I liked the concept of bye bye outside then hello Nana.

I have had a few parents who need for there child to preform. One parent I just had to plain kick out. Even when I get a new dc kid, I advice a short drop off. My house is a one story house with a child safety gate at the front, usually child is handed off quickly there. Good for you for nipping it in the bud.
