Sorry if there's a place for this question already but can anyone give me a list of all the questions you ask during an interview? It's for a seven year old boy for latchkey so I feel like a lot of the stuff in my handbook won't apply but I'm obviously going to go over vacations and pay and late fees and all that good stuff. Also, how do you start out your interviews? Just have a seat and jump right into it?

Prior to an interview I think over pros and cons of new client re age, schedule, activities I would have. Do you have another children same age? I find it works best for me to have clusters of same age children. Parents want you to oversee homework? If so, do you feel you would be able? Media? Can he do games? Do they expect you to have game system? I don't so have had temp care dck not happy and bored.- Flag

I start my interviews by giving an overview of the day and show them the main space. I go through my policies. Hit on important issues (for me: illness, meals, naps, outdoor time, contracted hours) a few times. Ask what they are looking for in a group setting. What their major concerns are. Do they have back up care if I am sick or away. What is their plan if little one is sick. Show them the rest of the space that I use and our outdoor space.
For a 7 yo, I would specifically ask what his usual after school routine is (or has been).
Go over policies. Most should apply. Discipline, illness, arrivals, departures, vacations, closures, etc.
I would also be prepared to talk about:
Does he walk by himself? What time should he arrive? What is the plan if he is running late? What if school closes early? Snow days? Sick days? What is their plan for all of those days? Decide whether or not you are helping with homework/providing him with a space to do it on his own. Allergies? Are you providing snack or is he bringing one. Media: what is your policy. Allowed, not allowed? What do you require him to bring each day. What happens if he arrives without needed items (pick up? call for drop off of item?).
I cannot think of anything else off the top of my head.- Flag
