5 Month Old Won't Take Bottles Anymore?

My 5 mo old dcb has been here since he was 3 months. He used to take a bottle like a champ, downing 4 oz every 3 hours or so. Now whenever he is hungry he will take about 4 sips and start screaming and spitting it everywhere. He wants to just take a sip every couple of minutes instead of taking a good amount all at one time. So he isn't starving, but I can't sit there and just be ready to feed him all day. I've tried warming the milk more, giving it to him cold, giving in various sippy cups, all with the same result. He takes bottles fine at home for his dad... what is going on? He is teething, but the tooth is almost all the way through so I doubt it could really be bothering him that bad. Today I decided I'm going to offer the bottle when he is hungry and stop when he starts throwing his tantrum and not offer it again for another hour. At 5 months how long should I let him go without eating before I call his parents? He last breastfed at 6:30 and here it is almost 10:30 and he has had a sip. (If he was younger, I wouldn't let him go for longer than 3 hours, but he doesn't seem that hungry. It wouldn't be such a big deal, but he has been waking up early from his afternoon nap to eat a few sips and then won't go back to sleep. I'm frustrated.

    Does he?

Or was that just what you are being told?

If it's true, have dad come SHOW you.

That way you can see how dad holds the baby, the bottle and what the whole process is like.

I am guessing that either he really doesn't take a bottle well for dad and they are just saying that or that dad is feeding only every once in a great while but not often enough to keep baby on a routine schedule of being used to a bottle.

I've seen it with my own eyes! He's actually my nephew so I see him quite a bit out of daycare. And he used to take bottles fine for me when he first started! I've been feeling terrible because he is a wonderful baby when he's not at my house. He's coddled at home yes, but I feel like he's been at my house long enough now to figure out how things work around here. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The child acts like he hates me. Squirmy, fussy, crying every time I come near him. I'm starting to think I'm not great a fit for him bit that kind of ****s when I'm his Aunt!

Nope, I don't think so. Mom is pretty adamant about getting her sleep and actually had him sleeping in his crib from day one and worked on getting him to sleep through the night right away. I do know he is pretty attached to breastfeeding when he isn't here and she does let him have it whenever he asks - sometimes less than an hour between feedings. He gets fed an hour before he gets dropped off and he spits up for a good half hour when he gets here so perhaps he is eating a ton before he comes and again when he gets home so that he can save most of his feedings for mom? What's that called? Reverse cycling?

I'm my experience, 4 hours between feedings at this age is pretty common. If he is eating plenty at home I wouldn't worry. Offer it to him and he will drink if he is hungry.
Does he have wet diapers every 2-3 hours?

Change nipple size. Maybe gets frustrated with low flow?

                Has he started solid yet?

If not, maybe it's time to introduce them. I know 6 months is more the norm now, but it's not that early.

I do cereal first, then green veggies, then orange veggies, then fruits. I mix formula or b.m. with the cereal, and offer sips of it between bits from a sippy.

Maybe you could at least do the before-nap feeding with cereal, so he doesn't go to bed hungry.
