Stinky Feet

Here, we don't wear shoes inside. Children are either barefoot or have on socks. The barefoot thing doesn't really bother me (I know it does some). I have two boys though who recently started wearing tennis shoes without socks. Their feet and shoes stink to high heaven! Today I had to wash their feet and put their shoes outside because the room smelled of their feet. How can I say to mom and dad that the kids need to wear socks with tennis shoes so they don't stink up the DC room?

I wouldn't. You just can't control that stuff. Boys have stinky feet. They don't like to wear socks in summer. Maybe put shoes outside while it's warm out?

I finally had to tell a dcm that her boys couldn't wear their Keens here. Their feet smelled so bad that it made a smaller child cry and every day DH would come home he would gag.

I was as nice as possible, no parent wants their kids to be the "stinky" ones.

I wouldn't. I had a dcg who had stink feet and shoes without socks on everyday. I wouldn't allowed her off shoes because it was SO stink! I told her that she MUST to wear sock on so her feet and shoes wont be stink. One time she told her mother about it and she told her, "I don't care what Miss ** said!"

Her parents let her whatever she wants because she is the boss, not the parents.

I know when I had the issue it was not a minor one.

As a parent I would want to know if my kids had an odor. It could be just sweaty feet but odors can also indicate a health issue.

But I have never smelled anything so awful. As expensive as Keens are you'd think they'd do something about it - the reviews on Amazon tell the whole stinky story::::::

I'm kinda surprised too. But getting others opinions is one of the reasons I am so thankful for this forum

I have had these two boys for almost a year. I am 99% positive the stinky feet comes from wearing their tennis shoes without socks. When they wear crocks or shoes and socks there is no odor. I did put their shoes outside this morning. Should I maybe just put socks on them in the morning and take them off prior to pick up?

Perhaps I've just never encountered feet that smelled so bad I had the need to tell a dcf about it ... I don't view it as a sensitive issue, more of a Eh, feet stink. Especially if it is because of no socks/tennis shoes.

I would mention it. I actually don't see anything wrong with it, nor would I be offended as a parent.

I had to make my son wash his feet every time he took his shoes off when he was younger. It didn't matter what shoes, new or old, socks or not. They were gag worthy.

I've got a dh whose feet are the same way. Unfortunately he hasn't grown out of it.

I also think as an in-home provider (although I am not really in my home) that you have a right to speak up and say something.

It doesn't have to be said in a mean way like you think a parent lets their child go without a bath for months on end...just tell the parent their kids must play awfully hard because their feet sweat inside their shoes and without socks its super noticeable.

Sometimes it IS hard to say things but those are usually the things that NEED to be said.

I've done it. The kids here choose whether they wear shoes or not. One girl can't stand wearing shoes, but her feet smell horrible! I asked dcm to send socks. I told dcg if shoes go off, socks go on. I was nice about it, but as mentioned above, this is my home!

Question. Is it a money thing? I ask because for much of my growing up we were very poor. At one point, I was down to one pair of socks. I was in 6th or 7th grade and understood we were poor and didn't want to ask mom for more I knew we didn't have the money. So my one pair didn't get washed every night of course and I re wore them they made my shoes stink something awful. Finally mom caught on and asked me and fixed it. But it was totally a money thing.

Admittedly I may be a bit sensitive about it because the smell was ungodly

My hubby grew up like this too. But he still had a better childhood than me!
