    **off hour early**

    Hello!
    My question is -
New to middle school sports that my kids play and I would like to be there to support. I did let my dcp know this month's ago that I would need to be off early some days to support my kids. I believe they all were ok because nothing was said. I am asking for an hour early to be picked up in some childs cases its only half an hour.I charge weekly rate. But to be fair ect and make it not seem so bad do I
give a little discount for the hour I'm off or leave it be? Thanks!

I would, but I know others that would not. If it is a once in a great while thing, I wouldn't worry about it. If it is more than once, I definitely would.

I would change my program hours. Period. New contracts. Parents can decide if it works or find other care. I did same for mornings. All parents resigned & stayed. No rate change.

I close 45 minutes early on Fridays September- June (I am closed Friday's in July and August) I did not lower my fee for the early closing. In my case most of my families are picked up by 4:00-4:30 anyway. I do not charge for the Fridays in July and August.

I'm also one of those providers that thinks that if a parent needs the time off but I'm open, they pay. If I need the time off, they don't pay. If it were me and I were closing early I'd give them a discount.

'd probably figure out what my weekly rate broke down to hourly and half hourly etc. and take it off of their next weeks rate.

I would also permanently change my hours. Keeping track of the rate change for being closed early 30min here or 90 min here would drive me crazy and I imagine it would be easier for parent to always know to come at the earlier time, or they will forget or not have back up and you will miss an activity.

I used to take the dck's with me and parents would pick up at practice. It was only one family, 2 dck's, that couldn't accommodate my schedule and I couldn't afford to lose them. I state in my policies that I can take time off for my daughter's sports.

The only issue I see with changing the daycare hours is that with sports the schedules aren't always consistent. Practice days and times are usually the same but not week games. Those are typically different days and times. Changing business hours and closing early would mean having to close at the same time all through the week even on the days that no games or practices were scheduled KWIM?

And when we break it down into hourly, they really don't get much of a discount. Tell me again why I do this for slightly over $3 per kid per hour? I kid, I kid. Kinda.

Admittedly this was the main reason I didn't give a discount for the slightly earlier closing time. It literally would have been CENTS.

This is what I did. I was lucky that my kids school was on my same street just a little over a mile away. We had lots of fun with it. I packed snacks, toys (only used during this time) for the game we made signs. I did not change my rate but I was a little leant with late pick ups or early drop offs.
(10- 15 min. with notice) You know the saying "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours..."

Exactly, what $3 off here or there a week for an hour or $1.50 off for half an hour. Changing your daycare hours would mean that you have to shave 5 hours a week and that's $15 off per client each week.

Sports are seasonal anyway so this will be a temporary change. Once the season is over you can go back to charging the normal rate ... until your kids start a new sport ::

Thank you all!! This season I figured between husband and I that I would only need to take 7 days off and an hour early pick up. I decided that like you mentioned the little $ to discount wouldn't be worth it and sure they would be like keep it. I am always here taking on,y days off months in advance. I think once I get this sport hing under my belt they will get used to my schedule changing a little per season.
