    New policy to add-

"If a child is seen or admitted at the hospital, they may not return for at least 24 hours after release and need a doctor's note clearing them for care and directions for specific care if needed."

Baby boy was released from children's last night. He has a doctor's appointment on Friday to follow up and see if he needs a monitor (stopped breathing they say it is apnea) She wanted to bring him this morning at 6:15 and I would have him for 11 hours. I am just not comfortable with that so Grandma is keeping him. So was I wrong with that?

    Dear Lord, NO!

Frankly I would be very uncomfortable continuing care at all for an infant who had known breathing issues.

I have been for some reason a little more paranoid about this little guy. I normally would nap a baby in the dining room or front room with the monitor on. This little guy I put the crib right in the doorway to my living room off the breakfast nook so I can see him sleep. I have been only using a sleep sack or swaddler. If he is in the swing or bouncy seat we are watching him and he is awake. Every morning I have had mom take him out of the car seat and wake him up. He and I have a conversation before mom leaves. I don't let her just pick him up and shush him back to sleep and lay him down.
I don't know why I have been so extra vigilant with him..but I have.

I have lost one of my little ones... it was after boyfriend beat him and he was drowned (2yrs old) my heart is still broken from that. Maybe that has something to do with this.

He is the best little guy. I will take him but I need all of the t's crossed.

I would have done the same thing. I would maybe even extend it to 48 hours, depending on what they were in for and the care required after release.

Hmmm. Off to amend my own policies, .

Well I am already off on Friday- his next day isn't until next Tuesday and I feel more comfortable with that.

I would have made the same decision. No way would I want to provide care for a child in that situation.

I agree with the others. No way would I have agreed to take him.

It's too risky and uncomfortable.... as a provider caring for others at the same time, I would be way too nervous to take my ears and eyes off of him for even a nano second and that would make me very stressed...

I would also think, as a parent that I wouldn't want him out of my arms for at least a while...kwim?

I would have made the exact same call. Sometimes our instincts as child care providers are screaming out loud and even when we don't know why, we still need to listen.

For what it's worth, I would have made the same decision you did. I wouldn't want him back in my care at least until they had a plan in place for him and even then I think I'd be very hesitant to take him back while he's still at high risk for his breathing to stop.

I would not be at ALL comfortable. Have Mom supply an angel care monitor for your use.

I have this policy. It is at my discretion when to readmit. I also tossed in after any anesthesia (had a kid with MAJOR dental work put under and then they attempted to bring him to me afterwards!)
