Already Feeling Like The "Mean Daycare Lady"

I interviewed a very young and sweet family on 7/14. Interview went well and I sent them home with paperwork. Mom contacted me the next day and said they wanted to enroll their little one with me to start on Thursday (she is only two days a week - which works out great for my current schedule).

DCD was supposed to bring by completed paperwork and tuition last night, after hours. I require the stuff prior to the child's first day so I cleared my evening and stayed home so I could get the paperwork/tuition. DCD shows up 15 minutes late - no call/text to say he was coming late. Then he did not read or sign the paperwork. Mom did, dad did not. I require both. Then he didn't have tuition (even if he did I would not have taken it w/o tuition).

I sent dad home with paperwork and told him he needed to read/sign and could bring everything back today but it needed to be during business hours. He then apologized and said they had a rough week.

I feel like I wasted my entire evening yesterday and for nothing.

That ****s, but I think you did the right thing by sending him home with it. He will know now that you do stand behind your policies.

Meh.... what you did was teach him that rules MUST be followed or there are consequences.

An evening "wasted" is a small price to pay to KNOW your new family now knows you follow your rules and don't just let things slide.

Win - win for BOTH of you in eyes! happyface
