    New Class

So in my introduction I had stated I was getting toddlers but I got a call today and I am going to be with the 3 year olds. Not too bad, may or may not have my own 3 year old I am hoping not and he goes to the other teacher's class.

Anyways I wanted to name my class and something with an Owl theme. So what do you guys think about

Little Hoots (does hoot sound bad?) Maybe with whoo instead? Not sure.

And also I go in on Aug 10 to train in the classroom I will be teaching in and too see it and what not. What makes it easy for you to decorate? Do you like birthday calendars? Name bulletin boards? Is it too young to start 3 year olds with responsibility charts (which in that case what are the assigned responsibilities?).

Thank you all by the way this is all at a private daycare preschool at my church that they have so I will have about 11 to 12 kids in my class I believe.

Can't help you with naming; I'm terrible at that.

My state's QRIS gives us points for having birthdays posted, so I've always done it. For a while, I had a bulletin board that said "A Star is Born" and had everyone's name and birthday on a star.

I've done class helpers before. It depends on the group. Line leader, caboose, paper passer, circle time helper, plant helper, animal helper, I don't remember the rest, tbh.

I assign everything. Chairs at the table, circle time spots, places in line, cubbies (obviously).

I have a daily schedule posted where I use actual pictures of the children doing the activities. (For example, for our 9:00 circle time, we have a picture of the class sitting for circle time) QRIS loves it. They also love the fact that we have picture of our children playing in each center posted in each center.

I use name tags for centers. Each child gets their own nametag with velcro on the back. Each center has velcro for them to put their nametag while they're playing in that center. When they leave that center, they take their name with them. It helps limit how many children are in a center since you can choose to put however many pieces of velcro you want. (For example, if you only want two children in your library area at a time, only put two pieces of velcro) Necklaces and hooks also work well. I've seen teachers use popsicle sticks and cups but I don't like it because you can't physically limit how many popsicle sticks fit in a cup and the children poke each other with them.

You'd never guess that I've spent a lot of time dealing with my state's QRIS...

I bet you haven't had much time to think about it.....

But no, that is a good idea about centers, so if there is no velcro spot available (or spot of whichever kind) then another kid cannot go in there so there isn't a whole bunch at that center sounds really good because it is something physical they see.

I think I will do the helpers, 3 year olds like that I didnt know about the caboose though that is new to me good idea so it doesnt give them the impression of being last because they arent worth being anywhere else in the line feeling you know. Thank you!
