    not sure about this one

    so
a very new to me thing and new for the child
I have a smart talking 2 1/2 year old girl
close to almost an hour after lunch yesterday the kids where at the table playing play dough and they noticed the girl had a chewed ( some what ) piece of lettuce in her mouth
she had been holding it in her mouth
I had her spit it out
today with last bite of lunch ...she had cauliflower in her mouth and sat there refusing to swallow
so I had her sit tell finished ...few mins head down as if falling asleep
so I took my fingers she was awake and pulled out not only chewed cauliflower but fair sized carrot chunks too
    she could of choked ..!!!
I have never dealt with something like this before
    any ideas ?
she loves her food ...just a very slow eater ...so I am baffled

My son used to do that. I remember he once held a piece of English Muffin in his mouth for over an hour. Gross!!

Can you look in her mouth before she's allowed to leave the table?

I have a dcg that does this since she started with me a year ago. Now I have her open her mouth before leaving the table and if there is anything in her mouth, I have her spit it out in the trash.

some kids have sensory issues or texture issues.

i would do as pp suggested. I have had this happen too and this is what I did.

at the end of each meal i make them open their mouth to show me that there is no more food in their mouth. Then if there is they have to spit it tin the trash. some I have to finger sweep.
