    Chicken Pox question

Dcg 5yrs has been diagnosed with Chicken Pox today.
She has not been in the daycare since last Friday.
I had a 4month old in the daycare today.
I'm trying to think logically right now, and not doing a good job at that.
    Should I be alarmed?

If the 4 month old was there friday there could be a possible exposure.I thinl the child is contagious for 24 hr before first pox appears. Last year one child came down with chicken pox none of the others caght it.I only had 2 unvacinated /

The 4month old was not here Friday.

It's passed on by person to person contact only?

I seem to remember you are contagious for three days before you break out. Time to google it . But for the most part person to person. Most of the time, chicken pox is not a huge deal. It can be but in children that is rare I think.

Per cdc.gov:Varicella (chicken pox) is highly contagious. The virus spreads in the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It can also be spread by touching or breathing in aerosolized virus from varicella lesions. A person with varicella is contagious from 1-2 days before rash onset until the lesions have crusted.

Would you give the dcm of the 4 month, who was here yesterday, a heads up?
Or would you consider that not necessary where they were not in contact of each other, other than the dcg being in the environment last Friday?

ANY time there is a DCK that has a contagious illness, I tell others.

Even if they weren't here at the same time.

IMHO, it's better safe than sorry.

Yes, you are right, thank you.
I realized I should be notifying dcm when I wrote out the post....(funny how that works).
Thank goodnes for this forum, I panic and come here, like it's my daycare life preserver.

I do the same thing. Even for fevers, vomiting, etc. I figure that I want parents to tell me if someone was sick, even over the weekend, so it's only fair that I tell them when someone is sick.
