    Labeling cubbies

All of my loose toys are in the fabric bins you get at walmart/target. I was thinking of having a picture on one side and the written word of what the contents are on the other side and attaching it to the bin with a tie of some sort.

I am worried this will make the DC room look cluttered and that tags will be ripped off though.

Do you label your toy cubbies? If so, how did you do it?

I made my own labels, with a picture of the item and the words. They lasted about a year. Although, they did look a little cluttered.

My bins are plastic and I label them with the name and picture of the items that go inside. I adhere the labels with clear packaging tape. It looks (and keeps the toys/room) neat and organized, imo.

I did this too but I printed labels off from here:

I have those bins too (Closetmaid I think, fabric boxes in different colors) and I had the hardest time figuring out how to add pictures on them.

I use the cubbies for the kids to put their belongings in and wanted to take pictures of the kids and stick them to the front of the cubbies. I laminated the photos and sewed them, tied them, hot glued them, and super glued them. They fell off each time.

I wrecked the fabric cubbies that I had the last time and had to replace them all and ended up just getting little black clips that slip over the top edge of the cubbies and labeled them with their names . That wouldn't work for you since you need a picture but I just wanted to share what I did so you could try something different.

For me the problem was that what ever I used either ripped through the picture or just detached from the fabric.

I have the fabric cube bins too (hate them, kids always end up crushing them but I don't know what else to use!!). If you can make some labels up on the computer you can print them onto iron on paper and iron them onto the bins. Imagine they'd hold up as good as anything else. The iron on paper for 'dark material" is white so would stand out on any color bins.

I did pictures and labels. It didn't look cluttered....actually more organized . They lasted about a year before most were ripped off. Plus, they were a pain when I reorganized (which I've found I do a lot). I gave up. Some of my bins still have the appropriate labels 3 years later though!

Awesome suggestions everyone, thank you! I would like to label the cubbies, I tend to move things around a lot and feel it would be helpful to have the bins labeled. We shall see what I am able to come up with!

I took my own photos, laminated them, they typed out the words.

IMO if the labels are uniform - same size/shape and typed instead of handwritten they won't make things look cluttered.

An alternative would be to put the label inside the bin, on the "back" side so you can see it when you look inside but it's not on the front.

I used to use clear plastic bins so you could just see what was inside them. There was no need to label them. I had some colored ones and one could just look inside. I don't see the need for labels. When I did try labeling for various reasons it seems like kids just like to tear them off so I went label free.
