Turns out all of my families are taking Friday 7/3 off so I don't have to work that day. My contract states you pay no matter what unless you request a vacation day 2 weeks in advance or I take a day off. I only take pay on holidays if they fall on a business day. I didn't have this day scheduled off in my holiday/vacation calendar that I handed out to my families, so it fair to charge them for Friday since I was planning on being open for business?

Yes. They chose not to bring them. They also don't need to know that everyone else has taken off either. Because the second they know you will have the whole day off someone will suddenly need their time too.
Also I would change your wording for holidays. "If the paid holiday falls on the weekend; the daycare will close on the observed day. Friday if it falls on Saturday; Monday if it falls on Sunday." No sense in you losing your paid day off. The parents obviously get their paid holiday that way.
Enjoy your unexpected day off!! happyface- Flag

absolutely!! Since it was a normal day you were open everyone should be paying for it. Would you even question it if only one family were taking the day off? I am guessing not so it doesn't matter how many families are taking the day.- Flag
