Infant On Irregular Schedule And Pooping During Naps

The dcm of my infant that I wrote about earlier just started a new job a few weeks ago and her schedule is 5 days a week but the pick up and drop off times vary from day to day. When I first started with him, he came 7-5 and fell into a predictable schedule pretty quickly and easily. Now that he comes at all different times, I'm having a hard time predicting when his naps should fall and he's having more trouble staying asleep past 30 minutes. One of the reasons he wakes up is that he always poops during his nap and can't fall back asleep after I change him. It doesn't matter when the nap is or how long I wait after a feeding, it's always during his naps. I really feel like a more regular schedule would help him get his bowels regulated because he would be able to have a more predictable routine, but Idk.

Would you insist on a more regular schedule for a 3 month old, or would it not matter to you? Is there any way I can get him through this pooping during nap thing? His schedule is he comes 7-5 mon and thurs, 11:30 - 3 Tues and wed, and 8-4ish on Fri. Those 2 half days is what I think are screwing us up because he sleeps in. They pay full time no matter what hours they use. My policies say not to bring later than 9, but I compromised because mom wanted to bring him even later those days during my big kids' nap time! Ugh.

I recently added a rule of no pick up or drop off during nap time. Unless of course it is a special thing like a doctor appt that can't be helped but that can't be abused. Would that work for you?

She actually is dropping off before nap time on those days. The problem is some days he starts at 7 and some days he sleeps in and doesn't come until 11:30. Am I having trouble with him because his schedule is irregular or because he is 3 months old and just unpredictable by nature? I don't want to insist that he comes at the same time every day unless that's actually his problem. I know dropping off and picking up at the same time isn't a problem because dcd works a very consistent schedule.

One of my kids was a nap pooper He was on a regular schedule and still ALWAYS pooped during nap and at night. Drove me nuts! He grew out of it around 5 months. No suggestions, but at only 3 months...they change so quick, I wouldn't be super worried about it. I'm not super helpful today

It could be both. I know many at that age do better with a set schedule. But they also do better with more parent time generally. As they get older they can adjust to two schedules a little better, but when they sleep that late it can mess up naps. I guess I would give it another month or so unless it becomes a huge issue. Then if the problem still continues you could ask for more regular hours. The potty at nap thing, my one year old I had recently did that every darn day.

I would set a time that works for you. No drop off past 10. Then he has plenty of time to get tired and need a nap.
