    Audio-book recommendations?

    Hi all,
For the summer, I have an older group than I usually do, including 2 school-agers. My son (5.5) loves listening to audio-books for his rest time, so I want to incorporate that for him and the other kid (nearly 6). We've already listened to all the ones in my sons collection, so now I'm looking for some recommendations. I picked up some Magic Tree House from the library for this week. Its nice because the younger kids still fall asleep to the CD and the older kids have something to listen to until they either fall asleep or not. Any other good titles that you know of that would interest young school-aged children?

I don't have advice for titles for older kids (I don't take them beyond age 5) but I just wanted to say that I love that you are playing audio books for rest time.

I've done this for years now (we are a TV free program) and the kids have always loved it! I've never had a child balk or complain about rest time because to them, it's more or less story time verses nap time.

You could check Scholastic books, they have a great selection of books for every age group and they highlight the popular titles in their flyers...also, they are super inexpensive!

Absolute top favorites we've listened to a zillion times:
Winnie the Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, read by Peter Dennis
Charlotte's Web, read by the author
Sparkle Stories (an online story subscription service)

      Other ones we've loved:
      Young Freddle
      Anna Hibiscus
      The Gooney Bird Collection
      James Heriot's Treasury for Children
      Stuart's Cape
      Nuts to You

I do audio books, as well, and love any chapter books.

        Ralph and the Motorcycle
        Cornelia Funke (anything by her)
        Geronimo Stilton

My favourite is Charlotte's Web because it's a good story but mostly because the voice is hypnotic and they are all asleep so quickly

I get all of ours from the library.
