Don't LICK that!

Okay, obviously I understand that children put everything in their mouth but it seems like lately it is just a germ fest around here!

I have never had a group as bad as this. (4 that are really bad 22m - almost 3) I tell them all a thousand times a day to stop doing something that involves spreading drool everywhere.

They swipe their mouth spreading saliva all over their face and hands.....
They lick their arms (like all over up and down their arm)
They lick all over their hand
They try to stick their whole hand in their mouth
They lick all over toys (things too large to fit in their mouth)
They lick my leather couch
They lick the couch cushions and bite them
They lick their cups all around the rim and lid

All of them don't do all of the things listed but someone is ALWAYS licking something and I am always telling them to STOP

It is so gross. It makes me want to avoid touching them even though I try to clean them up I know they do it when I'm not looking....how do you make them stop??

Doesn't it just make you wanna splash hot sauce all over everything they touch??? I'm sure that would be frowned upon.
I have a couple kids like that here too, and one is 4 yo. Jeez, you're not a baby anymore, get it away from your mouth!!

Once, I had a dcb2 that would lick my glass front door and his mom asked the doctor about it and he said he lacked something and some kids liked dirt guess the window was dirty back then:: Also, I have a finger chewing 2 yr old right now and I found out the child got a pacifier at home He never gets it here and parent has never brought one

This reminds me I caught my 5yo dd trying to feed her 3yo brother (14 & 12 now) a spoonful of dirt one day in the front yard.....pretty sure by the dirt ring around both of their mouths that they had already consumed plenty. After she was content that I wouldn't let her do that anymore she started feeding mud to our dauschund sp? from a spoon, I found her in the front yard one afternoon (fenced front yard) sitting in the double stroller with a bowl full of mud and our dog sitting next to her happily licking away at a spoonful of mud she was holding......

A little dirt never hurt anyone. I'm old school as far as germs go. I clean/sanitize my house, obviously, and toys that are mouthed. But when we're outside, dirt, grass, leaves, sand, and mud are all fair game. They're told not to eat it; but obviously they don't listen most of the time since mine are all younger. They get dirty, get messy. they wash

But the GERMS are another story. I sanitize like crazy and I have an air purifier that is medical grade and removes 99.9% of the dirt, dander, pollen, and cold and flu viruses! We've had ONE very short stomach bug(each kid puked for one day and was fine the next) and one bout of runny noses since I've gotten it. No colds though, just the runny noses. I'm a believer, so much so that I have 2, and am buying a third at $250! One for our main floor, and one for each nap room. They're pretty noisy too so they're awesome white noise makers!

I would seperate them and give them a baby teether until they are ready to stop.

I agree with the teethers, but 3 would be a little mature for a teether. This (http://www.amazon.com/Chewy-Tubes-Kn...l+sensory+toys) woud be a better option for an older little one who still has a need to mouth on or chew things. Just say, "toys are for playing. You can put this in your mouth." (Every time the child goes to mouth or chew on a non food item) Although they are pretty spendy if you have a number of kids you have to buy them for. I have asked parents to provide one, or something similar, if the problem was significant.

The up side to the oral sensory chew is that they can be easily sanitized in the dishwasher and children cannot bite them hard enough to leave marks.

It's called a "defender" it's made by the Company filter queen. They are similar to a rainbow purifier in concept but without the nasty water to change, and they work so much better!
