So sad
You can't prevent it, it happens whether they sleep on their tummy, backs, or in their car seat. And researchers are saying those expensive monitors actually give a false sense of reassurance, even if you use those and check often neither will prevent it.
There could be underlying problems. Sleep Apnea, brain abnormality, etc. As horrible as it is you aren't responsible as a parent or provider.
I won't take anymore infants. You are taught to put them on their backs but if you get a parent that has them sleeping on their tummy they are going to be stressed and scream. Daycare isn't the time to train them for back sleeping. And many parents think a child should sleep on their tummy if they have reflux. I had one infant years ago, and the parents wanted him here from the time I opened to closing. It was sad, but the dad couldn't take his crying and tried to get me to stay open longer since his wife got home 25 min. after him..omg! So if SIDS happens more in daycare I sure can believe it, and I was a much better caretaker then these parents as many providers are.
