How Long To Keep Sensory Rice Etc?

How long do you keep any dry food items you use for sensory play? Items like beans, rice, chickpeas etc?

Until they smell bad, get bugs or have hair and other gross stuff mixed in.
If you store or in the freezer and then rotate the items, they last a long time

After having the rice out for a couple weeks, I would put our in a ziplick bag and store it while we used something else in the sensory bin.. I went to get it back out once and it had little bugs in it.

I just read a tip about mixing cinnamon into the sand table as a natural bug repellent. If it works with sand, maybe it would work with other sensory materials.
