So, I can't find a good way to fit everyone at the table for meal time. I have too many kids to all sit at one table, but too few to fill a second table. I wanted to do a shelf for a table to fit 5 kids across one wall, but after thinking through some things mentioned in the thread I posted about that I'm not sure that's a good idea either. So...I moved a kids table into the kitchen next to the regular table. I want to have assigned seating b/c my kids fight over seats constantly. I can only fit 3 kids at the little table so I'm thinking my 3 smallest should eat there and my 2 bigger kids at the big table, but sometimes only one of the big kids are here on any given day. It seems kind of unfair for one to have to sit at the table with me by himself. But then again, at least they would all know where they sit each day and it wouldn't be a fight. Does that seem fair, or should I rearrange them on the days there would be an odd one out?

Maybe on the day with one bigger kid, you could make it a treat? Like each time you will pick a "big kid" for the day.- Flag

I'm visual and have to draw it out... How many places do you have at the table? How many children and what ages? What shape is the table?
We have a rectangular table that is designed to seat 6, but we can squeeze another chair on each of the long sides so I can expand to 8 if needed. Can you add a chair?
Also, I don't sit at the table because there's not enough room and because I end up getting up so often it's not worth trying to sit.- Flag

I recently got rid of my kitchen chairs and got two benches off Craigslist. I can't have the kids table and chairs because I have a couple of maniacsthat won't stop climbing etc.

Love the benches! My table came with them and they are in the garage right now because of the space they take up and I don't have many kids. When we did foster care the benches were a must, because we always had between 7-9 at the table each night. We did a chair on each end and the benches. If needed I would pull them out again.- Flag
